{Brainstormers -CA} Fwd: Post Qualification Course on Information System Audit

Seasons Greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year.

As we have witnessed in the recent past, there have been many triumphs in technology. Technology has revolutionalized the way of life. Wireless communication technology has made the world flat without barriers. What used to take weeks through mail now happens in just second over the Internet. There are spectacular changes the way business is carried out using technology. Technology has become both a driver and enabler of a new era of connectivity with which the transactions are carried out quickly, accurately and securely.

With this background, we have introduced technology education in our post qualification course and also brought in suitable modifications to our course curriculum for the newer Chartered Accountant students. We find ISA, the post qualification course, was taken up by several members, while members are still apprehensive about passing the said exams and also utility of the same. However, now we find that the course has been very useful to the people who have become qualified ISA and also those who have just gone through the curriculum but have not taken up the exams. In fact, many of the common usages of technology are reflected in MCA21, E-filing of returns, etc. The exposure on technology education has led these professionals to realize that the fundamental changes that are taking place in administration of Company Law and Income Tax and its implication to the practice are not too daunting for them.

There is also a more pressing need for knowledge of technology for auditors. As you are all aware, business operations of every business, be it a sole proprietor or a partnership firm or a public limited company, are carried out through technology enabled software. It could be a simple in-house developed accounting package or a multi-functional ERP package. This changed business environment has parallel impacts on the auditors also. So far the auditors have been certifying the Financial Statements of the business organisations as "true and fair" with the domain knowledge. But now, to do the same, they need the technology background. To successfully mange the changing pressures, it is important to acquire new skill sets. Also, to ensure that the challenges from within from the more tech savvy young CAs coming into the profession is faced appropriately, it is probably important to upgrade ourselves in terms of technology.

I also sincerely believe that those who have not taken up this course so far, must join the course immediately (before the contents of the course merges fully with C.A. curriculum). I am really concerned about those who have taken up the course but could not complete the same. I would request them to complete the course and enjoy the fruits of the new technology knowledge.

Hence it is my prime duty to insist on every one of you to join in the course immediately. I assure you that

b) It will almost become a necessity in your professional career

c) It would match with the changes that are happening around you
